Jessica Frelinghuysens work is concerned with, as she puts it “…creating democratic spaces”. Devises that abet the assimilation (and sometimes alienate) the user in our new civilized constructs. Ponchos to enjoy grass in without having to actually touch grass, and big collapsable paper helmets to tell secrets in are a few concepts that blur the line between genius and funky-freshness.

Beautiful/Decay contributor and photographer Luke Stettner recently created a gorgeous lookbook for Beautiful/Decay Apparel’s Spring/Summer 09 seasons. The concept behind the shoot juxtaposes evocative objects & optical affects with our apparel, to complement the shirts in abstract ways. Still life images of disco balls, prismatic rings, shag carpets and balloons contrast the light, color and texture of the shirt graphics. Check it out and let us know what you think!

I wanted to issue an apology for committing the ultimate blogging sin: mixing up two artists’ works (!!). So here is my attempt to correct my error.. the HARMLAND/CHARMGLAND post I made was actually composed of two Flickr accounts’ works: Hardland/Heartland and Portrait Painters. This post is about HL/HL, and the next will be Portrait Painters. Damn, the internet is a tricky business.
This description is taken straight from the horse’s mouth:
