Brian Berman
There’s something distant about Brian Berman’s photography. His photos carry a sense of longing and nostalgia, maybe of a particular time, place, or feeling. Though most of his pictures are composed with people, I feel like a more important subject is the environment behind them. Emotions, poses, reactions all seem to capitalize on the atmospheric presence within each photograph. I like the sincerity of his collection, which feels like a journal of his opinions; and though they may have not originally been products of visual experiences, they are translated into them, so they relate to viewers like a narrative.
