Really great work by French animator and illustrator Baptiste Alchourroun. The video uses choppy motion and what seems like a loooot of neon/brightly colored paper to create a really cool effect. The music is pretty catchy too and the character in it reminds me of the dude from MSTRKRFT because of his ‘stache (insert ‘stache n shades competition plug). Thanks to everyone that made it out to our screening of Marc Jacobs & Louis Vuitton documentary screening last night at Space 15twenty. The screening was a great success, with great summer time weather and comfy beach chairs to relax on. All the seats were filled within minutes and a few troopers even stood for the entire length of the movie!

Artist Roxy Paine will be having his opening reception tonight at James Cohan Gallery called Dendroid Drawings and Maquettes, on view May 1 through May 30, 2009. The exhibition includes a scale model of Maelstrom as well as drawing studies from the artist’s well-known series of stainless steel Dendroid sculptures. This show runs concurrent to Roxy Paine on the Roof: Maelstrom, a site-specific installation at The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Iris and B. Gerald Cantor Roof Garden on view from April 28 through October 25, 2009

Michael Kontopoulos, a grad student at UCLA Design|Media Arts has created a system of sculptures that are constantly on the brink of collapse. His intention was to capture and sustain the exact moment of impending catastrophe and endlessly repeat it. This documentation gives me the chills, makes me sweat, and I almost scream when each machine comes close to collapse. Good job Michael.

Not only does Black Moth Super Rainbow make amazing music, they also brought their music videos to a whole new level with interactivity for this Dark Bubbles piece. Like, what? Just move your mouse around from right to left (the webcam activated one doesn’t seem to be working…). The concept is really simple-just a guy jumping up and down on a trampoline, but smart at the same time. I kind of wish there was more variation though.
