Chad Wys’s Readymades

Illinois-born artist Chad Wys‘s latest series Readymades ’11 consists of mixed media pieces that deconstruct found objects – such as frames, china and porcelain - by distorting and adding paint. The playfulness of the work completely reinvents the objects to make the familiar completely unfamiliar whilst adding new layers to bric-a-brac found around the home. More after the jump.

Dusdin Condren

Light, shadow, and the human figure feature prominently in the recent works of photographer Dusdin Condren. Whether looking at an arm amputated by shadows or a woman posing Lee Miller-like in the striated light of a nearby window, there is a certain surreal, but serene viewing experience to be had with these photographs. The sometime use of black-and-white certainly increases this special effect.

Aya Kato creates world for fans in Mr. Chiizu app

Aya Kato’s illustrations suck you into her world of star-crossed lovers, intergalactic space travel and art deco reverie on first contact. As a Beautiful/Decay cover artist on long since sold out Issue K, her posters, t-shirts and books have been amongst the most sought after the publication has produced.  We spot her Mermaid shirt on fans at least once a month. She recently teamed up with Mr. Chiizu, an artist’s decoration iPhone app that gives art and illustration lovers a chance to get inside works of their favorite artists. She was a natural choice for a Mr. Chiizu collaboration, giving fans a chance to step into her rich fantasy world. Her theme has been flying off the iTunes store shelves since its release earlier this week.

Dara Scully’s Fantasy Land

Young Spanish artist Dara Scully creates storybook-like narratives in her photographs where she has tea parties with bears, hangs out with baby elephants, and plays hide and seek with wolves.

JONNY NEGRON – NSFW

This Thanksgiving, let us be grateful for the delicious imagery of “the master of voluptuousness” Jonny Negron. Not since Tom of Finland have I witnessed this caliber of graphic plumpness, and once your eyes fall upon these beauties you’ll be hooked. I really wish those two dudes could collaborate, unfortunately Tom of Finland is dead, but luckily, Negron and Jesse Balmer collaborate often, yielding plenty of awesome finishes. You can catch both of these men in CHAMELEON and DEMON GOD GOBLIN HEAVEN, and after that check out Jonny while he flicks, tumbles, and sells wonderful shit at these hyperlinks. Do enjoy.

James Clarkson

James Clarkson‘s collages take photographic images of objects from old art catalogues and treats them as a blank canvas to add abstract paint-strokes and form new art. The Sheffield-based artist focuses on the contradictions between high-art, design and mass-production; demoting the artworks of the photography to mere found objects in order to explore new forms and meaning.
