What would you do if you found out someone has the same name as you? And you find out via Google image search that maybe they kinda look like you, too? Oh, and this other person just happens to be a (sorta well known) musician? You can do what multi-disciplinary arist Daniel Bejar is doing: Re-stage photos of musician Daniel Bejar (of Destroyer fame) culled from Google’s image search engine and post them on your own site — thegooglegänger.com — along with some fan mail you may occasionally receive by accident.
CANADA is a trio of filmmakers, Luis Cervero, Nicolás Méndez & Lope Serrano. Located in Barcelona, they bump out mysteriously sexy music videos that feel like a mix between an Alejandro Jodorowsky film and an American Apparel ad. According to their info page on their website, “…CANADA has pursued excellence in different projects, advertising, fashion, music promotional videos, television and cultural events.” On top of all that fun, they were also guest writers and did an interview with Its Nice That, which helped to shine a bit of light on their interests and personalities. So far, I haven’t seen a video created by them that wasn’t worth watching, but my heart will always belong to the first one I ever saw, El Guincho’s Bombay. To celebrate the city-wide museum show Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945 – 1980, iconic west coast rapper Ice Cube takes a few moments to celebrate the life and work of legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames. Touring the home of Charles and Ray Eames, known as Case Study No. 8, Ice Cube explains how hip-hop mirrors the couple’s beautifully designed home as both make use of prefabricated pieces that fit together to form a whole. Most know Liz Harris as the wonderfully effecting ambient/drone project that is Grouper, but the Portland artist has steadily begun to bring her visual work to the public as well. It makes sense that the source of Grouper’s haunting, rhythmic drive would also produce these meticulous, ghostly patterns and figures. Employing ink on paper, Harris provides images that suck the viewer into her world and spit them back out as quickly as they came. These drawings and prints on paper are concentrated visual doses of a Grouper album’s sonic power, yet maintain a presence all their own. It is clear that Harris has one vision, and is skilled enough to express this (strong) artistic inclination within multiple forms. Read more »

This is such a bizarre mash up of acts that I couldn’t resist posting it. Matt and Kim, Soulja Boy, and Andrew W.K. have risen from the dead to throw a raging dance party in a morgue. The mortician has left for the night, the limbs are fresh and there’s formaldehyde on ice.
