Minale-Maeda’s Inside Out Furniture series is designed specifically to be downloadable in order to reduce enviornmental issues related to transport, costs of stockkeeping, and explore collaborative design and distribution. The concept was to turn pieces inside out to make construction simple, while brackets and structural details become distinctive and attractive features. The connections are 3D printed to suit various sizes of wood, and the crafting is minimal requiring only cutting to length and drilling. Another interesting project by the collaborative duo is the Lego Buffet, a buffet table gorgeously made entirely out of you guessed it, Legos! See more images after the jump!

Scott Jarvie is an artist and designer whose works are unique in material and in concept. Jarvie runs a multi-disciplinary design consultancy, and most of the projects presented on his website involve furniture design with special attention paid to materials. The piece above, entitled ‘Clutch’, is a chair made from 10,000 drinking straws, a research piece commenting on our disposable culture. Jarvie’s work is fantastic, make sure you check him out.

Not really sure when Italian architect and designer Gaetano Pesce was created these mountainous waterfall sofas though it seems he’s no stranger to challenging the mass market perception of furniture design. His most famous design was the “Organic Building” in Osaka, Japan.

Phrased very well by BLDGBLOG as a possible scenario and usage of Sebastien Wierinck’s public furniture: “After a long day at work, then, you would walk into your house – which has no permanent furniture – and you’d see a shimmering mass of black tubes swaying in a slight evening breeze above your head…You’d push several buttons, and the system would begin to move, drooping down in long loops and turning back and forth in tight corners and curves, all laying out the forms of temporary furniture – bed, table – as you get ready for a quiet night at home.” I love the photo documentation- each set of furniture seems to have its own mood.
