Raul Gonzalez

Massachusetts-based painter Raul Gonzalez is not only an artist who has exhibited in galleries, but he also works as an art teacher. I also worked as an art teacher, and so I can’t help but feel an instant respect for Raul. Looking through his paintings, you are immediately reminded of classic cartoons…..classic cartoons that are walking around with arrows pierced through their skulls, boners growing out of their foreheads, and wearing necklaces made out of bullets… I think Raul would be a very fun teacher to learn from.

I am in love with Derek Aylward’s use of mixed media and flat renderings that create these amazingly haunting images that are just congested with expression and mood.

Mark Alsweiler

Mark Alsweiler, an emerging artist in Sydney, just finished one of his exhibitions over at Nine Lives Gallery in Brisbane. He gains inspiration from his personal interests (immediately you can notice the influence of American Indian, Western, and Mexican imagery) to create a symbolic body of work. I am really enjoying his skull paintings and his love of pattern making.

San Francisco based artist, Kevin E. Taylor, creates incredible and symbolic paintings that also have a certain sense of humor. I am pretty excited about some of his religiously themed paintings. There is a strong idea of creation vs. construction going on in some of his recent work.

Skinner Show This Saturday!

King's Lament, The Keeing Wail of the Dark

I recently got an email from Skinner, one of my fave heshin’ heavy metal artists and also B/D Book 3 participant, about his show at White Walls gallery this Saturday. It read: “There will be over twenty of my new works, mystical hand crafted masks, and twisted and intricate sculptures, all of which will most definitely rock your world.” ‘Nuff said. Wish I could be there in person, but if you’re in SF, this is not to be missed!

Scott Everingham

Scott Everingham is an artist who is based in Toronto. As a painter, Scott particularly enjoys the various forms of experiences created through the vast language of paint. He creates abstract, gorgeously fictional environments where you could almost make out tangible imagery. An experience I would relate to observing an illusion out of the corner of your eye. Though Scott’s paintings appear almost completely spontaneous, you would be surprised to know that along with the process of impulsive mark making, there are extensive preparations through drawing.

Currently, Scott Everingham is exhibiting his paintings in Amsterdam and Rotterdam at the Le Secet Museum. If this blog post has sparked your interest in Scott Everingham, you can view his work up close at his solo exhibition at Galarie Trois Points in Montreal in January 2011.
