Alvvino, Berlin based design/illustrator creates a style that seems long past. When i first peeked at his website I thought to myself “Classic!” Then I thought “no no, you’re just an intern here. You have no authority to make judgements like that” But the craftsmanship of these pieces are inevitable and their atmosphere is both pleasant and consuming.

Another great documentary to add to your Netflix queue. This time we go to Nazi Germany to see how Adolf Hitlers obsession with art drove him to attack and pillage some of the best museums and galleries of the world.

The Rape of Europa tells the epic story of the systematic theft, deliberate destruction and miraculous survival of Europe’s art treasures during the Third Reich and World War II.

Sean Pecknold is a Seattle based artist who has created some incredibly poignant videos and animations. The video “White Winter Hymnal” for Fleet Foxes–a sort of time-turning-backwards retrogression via a magical crank — recently caught our eye here at B/D. Sean recently discussed that, as well his other works, inspiration, and  process behind creating his magical shorts.

Inspired by American pro wrestling promotional videos from the late 1980s and early 1990s, Ben Aqua developed his own series of wrestling personas, each delivering messages of extreme hate, violence, and hyper masculinity.

This video addresses a view of pro wrestling as a fascinating calamity of simulated ultra-violence, consumer culture, and homoeroticism.

Fountain is a sculpture made by Letha Wilson using drywall and wood reclaimed from art gallery walls, and an artist’s studio walls. The drywall materials will gradually deteriorate away over the course of the exhibition as the paper and rock-based materials are worn down by constantly moving water.

I’ve been an avid documentary film watcher for many years now. My favorite documentaries are obscure stories about everyday people doing extraordinary things.  I always get excited to share these documentaries with friends but before I know it I forget the title. So in the spirit of archiving my findings I am creating a new category dedicated strictly to documentaries.  Below is one of my most recent finds.

A Man Named Pearl tells the inspiring story of self-taught topiary artist Pearl Fryar, whose unlikely journey to national prominence began with a bigoted remark.

I was following the pack
all swallowed in their coats
with scarves of red tied ’round their throats
to keep their little heads
from fallin’ in the snow
And I turned ’round and there you go
And, Michael, you would fall
and turn the white snow red as strawberries
in the summertime…

Fleet Foxes

Love it.
