Matthias van Arkel is a Stockholm based artist who uses silicone rubber (yes, sort of like the stuff of boob jobs) to “paint” these abstract-expressionism-esque, noodly layered sculptures that evoke impasto painting.I think it sort of looks like silly string, but they evoke so many synthetic and organic forms. What do you guys think they look like?

Wild! I love to see clever artists like this one in particular. I like the first one. It reminds me of intestines.
first thing that comes to mind is my girlfriends bras and panties when I do the laundry… and then, a dream i had that had nothing to do with bras and panties.
Ha- intestines is a good one Alissa, especially since silicone is used for weird bodily stuff. I wish my guts looked that good. Maybe I should eat some food coloring.
I like what you said too, Jason, about the laundry- they kind of remind me of my own mismatched sock piles too!
Apparently Matthias creates the works in his mind in the early morning, his last series was entitled “Silicone Dreams” cause the ideas for the forms are kind of dreamed.
they look like yarn.
yes yarn! its like the knitting store. good one :)
I think they look like multicolored shoelaces! :D
