"Bomb Suit"

To keep up my Stockholm-based artists thread, I’m posting the work of Anders Krisar, who has a show up at Union Gallery currently. The top image, “Sonja,” is fabricated from the clothing of a woman who kept every garment from infancy to old age. It’s sort of a strange, corporeal look at time & identity, like the rings of a tree. The second, “Bomb Suit,” depicts an industrial strength bomb suit that has exploded from the inside, the rips of fabric referencing the violence of spilling guts in an uncannily silent & still way. Brings to mind the nature of external/internal turmoil & danger and which poses the biggest threat? Love both these works.

Matthias van Arkel is a Stockholm based artist who uses silicone rubber (yes, sort of like the stuff of boob jobs) to “paint” these abstract-expressionism-esque, noodly layered sculptures that evoke impasto painting.I think it sort of looks like silly string, but they evoke so many synthetic and organic forms. What do you guys think they look like?

“Disturb Me” is an interactive installation by The Popcorn Makers  between human and his environment. It is to make perceptible the reciprocal links and often forgotten contact, that we maintain with our environment.

The projection depends on the sound emitted by the spectators and creates consequently, a transitory and colored environment. The projected forms are revealed when in contact with surfaces of the room.

The senses are awakened, the room becomes alive.

Rainbow Arabia in a couple words: “A small but eminently worthy example could even be found in the mere existence of this rad new band called Rainbow Arabia. Based in Echo Park, they’re the husband-and-wife team of Daniel and Tiffany Preston, whose colorfully tough new dance-floor exotica rocks so hard at least partially because of what we and they have learned about ‘world music.’”

Things to note in the video directed by Jacqueline Castel: the neon colored instruments, guns, fast cuts and zooms, and lastly, the ability to bring Echo Park to just about anywhere in the world! I love it.
