Kashiwa Sato’s identity system for Fuji Kindergarten is probably the cutest AND awesome-est piece of branding I have seen for a while… but maybe that could be the heart-melting candid photos of the totally adorable toddlers running around. Who knows, if I had begun my educational journey here instead, maybe I would have turned out to be a whole different human being… I think this kindergarten is the equivalent of the High School #9 for the Visual and Performing Arts by architect firm Coop Himmelblau because of the complete wholeness the design + architecture. Just looking at it makes me want to learn (!!)

Nick Blinko is considered an outsider artist. He also leads the relic punk band Rudimentary Peni. No one knows much about him other than a few smapshots of him and a few documents recording the time he spent in a psychiatric ward as a youth. subsequently, he believes that the anti-psychotics prescribed to him obstruct his creative impulses and spends long periods off of his medication, recording and creating detailed compositions of faces, coffins, figures, handwritten notes. I think appreciating his work helps if you are familiar with his music too. Surprise! he never made a website either.

I recently returned from a trip to Beatty NV, cutting up through Death Valley National Park. There is something interesting about abandoned buildings, how they are reclaimed by their environment in a way. One might assume it plausible compare architecture to living things in this way.

Jean Marembert (1904 – 1968) was a founder of the group with Louis Cattiaux – a group of Surrealists of a more decorative nature. His work is also, like Giuseppe Arcimboldo’s work, looks like it was made in this century instead of the last. That just goes to show how our current sensibilities are based off the past. Old aesthetics are recurring and cycled through, even filtered down. That’s why I believe it when people say that nothing is ever original anymore.

Michael Dotson’s paintings look like tripped out buildings in another dimension of Second Life. Or in First Life, coated with thick layers of pastel and neon paint. I really like this fanciful approach to architecture.
