Simple Lines

Matt Lee uses simple shapes and lines to do beautiful drawings that are filled with humor and charm.

The Jeff Death series uses the book cover format as a template to mythologize a fictitious author. Present only by name, Jeff Death is a character without visual representation or physical description. Chosen for their simplicity, titles in the series are from old soul/ rock & roll songs. In combination with the illustrations, these titles suggest a narrative, allowing the viewer to decipher or construct the narrative content for themselves.

Another series by Matt is the Death Landscapes which is an experiment in exploring form and formlessness through a limited set of iconography (The emoticon, a hill, the colour yellow).

The drawings use the emoticon through various guises to signify the enigmatic and unpinable.
