Indian book cover designs from 1964 to 1984

Found these awesome Indian book cover designs from a couple decades ago on A Journey Round My Skull, my go-to blog for all vintage graphic design. Unfortunately, the designers for each of the book covers weren’t listed. You can see the fronts and backs of each book (I only posted either front or back here) and it’s really amazing to see how well integrated the whole of the design is and how designers during that time were just mainly illustrators.

Folks who are into this sort of design, especially the top one (a Gujarati novel by Saranga Barot called Maya Bhayankar) should check out Blaft Publications, based in Chennai, which is busily producing translated compilations of pulp fiction from around South Asia, including the very popular Tamil Pulp Fiction, which includes a whole section of astonishingly awesome book covers in full color, and the just-released “Heroes, Gundas, Vamps & Good Girls: Hindi Pulp Cover Art by Shelle”

p.s. I second the love for A Journey Around My Skull!
