Sickly sweet works from LA based artist Zachary Rossman. Such delicate use of naturally colored papers, and the drawings have hints of the hyper-detailed patterns that make my brain twitch with excitement.
So this week I’m looking around to buy a new mattress, and it got me thinking about these pieces I saw a little while back by Canadian Brian Hunter. The images he renders fit the tone of the paintings so well, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen materials better suited for their subject matter. It’s always exciting when I encounter something I’ve never seen before that seems so completely obvious. The sleeping bag idea is simply genius!
Alejandra Villasmil is a Venezuelan artist who lives and works out of Santiago de Chile since 2007. I like the broad scope of work and use of absurd sculptural mediums.
On a recent visit to The Center for Photography in Woodstock, New York I had the pleasure of viewing the works of Justine Reyes. A series entitled Vanitas included photographs reflecting old Dutch still lifes in a similar vain but with a most sharp and contemporary air that was both refreshing and humorous.
Jimmy Joe Roche has a brand spankin’ new website…including a page entitled “labyrinth” which stacks Jimmy’s various videos, causing a seizural-wall of epileptic sound. Other fun stuff….Mac software entitled “Slime Pulse,” which, in the artists words is a “standalone generative noise software for the Mac OS.” Check it out!
An amazing project taken on by two groups/individuals which I very much revere: Champagne Valentine & Aaron Meyers (responsible for YouCube)’ latest collaborative creation uses augmented reality (and a QR code which you download and print out) to create a virtual musical instrument. The future is so promising!
Tonight marks the Los Angeles debut of the fourth (and greatest) chapter in the PARTY FOOD performance art series, P4RTY FOOD 4 by Joseph Gillette at Synchronicity Space LA. This performance contains all our favorite things: poop jokes, puppetry, bad puns, politics, people, and liiiiittle piggies. It’ll be a ONE-NIGHT-ONLY event so don’t miss out. Duh.
Alright B/D fans! Many of you have been asking us to get more shops in our stockist list so we thought it would be appropriate to have you suggest some good shops in your area that would be a good fit for B/D. Please suggest shops that carry art or design books or boutiques that carry other similar publications. It would be helpful if you could give us the shop name, website(if they have one), and location/phone number. If you want to go one step further run into your favorite bookstore/shop and demand that they carry Beautiful/Decay! You can have them email [email protected] to get wholesale info. With your help we’ll get the books in a quality shop near you!
