Martha Otero Gallery’s current exhibition, Tamburello, features the work of Chris Beas: a combination of painting and miniature race car sculptures. For many of you, these images may bring to mind a favorite childhood pastime–racing your wee Matchbox car through the gnashing jaws of a plastic alligator/shark. However Beas’ work is clearly no Matchbox, he incorporates clever optical illusions and mixed media to create a sense of speed in every one of his highly detailed pieces.
