Illustrator Thomas Neulinger brings Modernism to archived images by creating collage-like posters, featuring the likes of Icarus and Darwin. His use of black and white demonstrates his affinity for shadows and the drama created by high contrast, while his geometric line-work highlights the balance and symmetry of his designs.
I thought long and hard about whether I should post this but even after a good nights sleep i’m still angered by this video. If you’re not familiar with Justin Bua he is an illustrator primarily focusing on urban imageries of dj’s, breakdancers, and other various hip-hop related imagery. What do we think of his work? Well lets just say you won’t find him featured in B/D anytime soon. But I digress.
A Reason to Live Lowbrow Art Exhibition opens this Friday, June 4th, at Coalition in little old San Luis Obispo, CA. The DIY-style event, intended to inspire future collaboration & support for this small but thriving local art scene, will exhibit the most “interesting and provocative” artists from the area. The Lowbrow show is part of the city’s Art After Dark gallery walk – held the first friday of every month – and will certainly be a stroll off the beaten coastal-landscape painting path. Featured artists include Lisa Harrison, Steve Taggard, Gary Ellsworth (a.k.a. Sawdust), Joshua Jesse, Brittany App & more. Local art, live music, great company and some good old fashioned lowbrow fun!
I love these installations by New York based artist Heide Fasnacht. Fasacht captures the beauty in catastrophe with her intricate, freeze-frame sculptures. They’re so detailed that I think I must be looking at a movie still, rather than something three-dimensional, something I can hold in my hands.
