TROY DUGAS’s Abstract Food Labels

Troy Dugas’ geometric paintings are made from vintage product labels he purchases in unused bundles. He cuts and arranges this material onto flat surfaces to produce works that appear to be woven. Using repetition, pattern, precision, and scale, Troy  distracts and tricks our eye from the original purpose of the labels to sell a product. The immediacy of the graphic labels are substituted with aesthetic sensation and contemplation creating a transformative state of meditation via Troy’s laborious and meditative process.

James Loveday’s Craiglist Portraits

James Loveday’s project about the people who use Craigslist documents who they are, why they respond to the ads and what eventually happens when they get in front of the camera.

Over a period of several months James placed adverts on Craigslist offering a free portrait to anyone who wanted to come by my studio in Brooklyn and have it taken. Each time a person would come, he’d have everything set up and take their portraits. Some people would show up ready, knowing what to wear and what they wanted, others had a vague idea of getting famous and wanted to have pictures of themselves for their future careers as actors and models and some people were just intrigued, or bored.

Everyone filled out a questionnaire about themselves and why they wanted to be a part of the project. Their answers are included with their photo.

Malark’s work on the streets

The graphics-heavy street work of Malark, found primarily in and around London and Barcelona, dominates space with color block characters of quirk. But it’s not Malark’s attractive, sharp-toothed chroma buddies that make this stuff so special. What is so attractive about this artist is that he gets up relentlessly, and on all surfaces- walls, cars, trucks, storefronts; and, benevolently, our brains.

Rob Jamieson’s Gothic Suicide Note

Rob Jamieson’s portfolio is full of great work in every material imaginable from painting to video. There isn’t a lot of text on his work about his intentions so you’ll have to do the mental heavy lifting of connecting the dots between various projects but two of my favorites are his loose drawings and his goth suicide note video titled  I Like You Now. Get Out of Here. Go Home. Watch the full video in all it’s gothic jock hating glory after the jump.
