Welcome to this weeks offering of Click To Collect, Beautiful/Decay’s campaign to help art lovers start their collection of original artists works at affordable prices. This week we bring you California native Emilio Santoyo whose boldly colored gouache paintings on paper take you on a neon fantasy through the galaxy that lives within the artist mind. Strap on a helmet, jump on your moped, and ride off into the work of our good pal Emilio and add a bit of color to your drab walls. Read more about the work, see the entire list of available works, and find out more about Click To Collect after the jump!
About The Artist:
Emilio Santoyo lives and works in California as a freelance illustrator/designer/professional human. The work that he produces comes from a combination of a well trained hand giving the pieces rhythm within the works and an heart. Giving him a rare and unique voice that stands apart. Inspired by animation, junkyards, modes of transportation, movies that he watches multiple times, and the joys and events of life. Each project becomes a research project in which both the viewer and Emilio love.
A Word From Emilio:
A good portion of these paintings are from a series called “Tomorrows Color”. The beauty, the stories, and the design that goes into the sci-fi genre has always been amazing. I know the genre never left, but I always seem to forget its incredible existence. When I run into these movies on TV or Netflix its like running into that one ex at Target and all of a sudden you are in love again. One of the best things from The series Mad Max was the individual vehicles each of characters put together. Gathered from scraps of metal and other found car parts to make these “beast” like cars that run on scares fuel. I feel like these are the same ideas and obstacles that Moped riders of today deal with. Putting together these gas friendly rides that look as mean as possible. The goal with these were to capture the same feel, look of heroics posture that goes with all sci-fi genre applied to the riders of moped today and tomorrow. To reveal to the viewer the beauty in something so simple that is taken for granted.
About Click To Collect:
Eight months ago I bought my first house and renovated it, which meant my art collection was packed up in boxes and bubble wrap not to be seen for another 5 months. In the mean time, staring at the boring white walls in my house was literally driving me up a wall. And the second the dust settled, before even moving in the furniture, I installed every piece of art I owned in the new space. The art transformed the whole house, what felt soulless and sterile before was now filled with the chatter of all the different works of art telling their individual stories. That got me to thinking about how important art is in making a house a home, and how everyone should be able to collect it. That’s how the the Click To Collect project was born. We wanted to give everyone a chance to collect our favorite artists and keep the prices to $500 or less…. Art Within Reach, if you will, ahem. Each week this month we will offer you 5-10 original hand-made works priced $500 or below through our Click To Collect project. It’s our hope that by making these original works available at these prices, we’re helping our readers start or grow their very own collection that they will enjoy and treasure for years to come.
