Recently, Canadian installation/performance studio Moment Factory put on a really ambitious show in Barcelona. The group designed and executed a video projection piece using the facade of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia cathedral. Looks incredible. MF pulled off the piece three nights in a row during the recent La Merce Festival. It would kill my brain if I tried to engineer a video projection piece using a structure as complex as the Sagrada Familia. More images after the jump. (via)
Paul Bourke is interested in discovering fractals- similar visual patterns that exist throughout the universe. To that end, he’s scoured Google Earth to bring you these amazing geographic patterns shot via telescope from above. The end result is this series of images that celebrates the planet and its natural form. Stringy river deltas, clumpy desertscapes- beautiful stuff. (via)
Recently deceased Hip Hop legend RAMMELLZEE was such an enigma. I often have a hard time deciphering some of his rhetoric. But his genius is so evident. His work (on any platform, vocal or visual) was always a cut above. He always had something slightly different going on. Take his “Letter Racers” (above), for example. Customized skateboard warriors fighting epic alphabet wars? Always on another level. Dallas-based artist Gabriel Dawe creates textile installations that manifest themselves as floating gradients of bright color. Interesting series of sculpture from Brooklyn artist Jaye Moon. The boxes almost look like evolved versions of those dioramas you had to make in elementary school to depict scenes from some novel you had to read for class. Except whatever scenes these are meant to reproduce are so much more cerebral. Clean, almost marble-like materials mingle with glowing elements of subdued color to make you wonder. High level of intensity from Chinese artist Xue Jiye. No additives or preservatives.
Working mostly in earthy/flesh tones, Xue just goes for all-out anguish in his work. Contorting and mutilating his subjects, he reduces us all to our most animalistic, base tendencies. I never mind when an artist chooses to bring the pain when the work is as good as these are.

What gave you the idea or inspired you to shoot this series?
‘I’ll got the idea by playing around with my little son and his soap bubbles. They disappeared so fast and I got curious about the funny forms and the rainbow colors on their surfaces. So I wanted to capture them and take a closer look.’
