Baptiste Debombourg

baptiste debombourg manbaptiste debombourg staples This post goes out to all the 9-5ers stuck behind a desk, staring at the white office walls and pretending to be busy, whenever the boss walks by.  If there was no boss to check up on you, what would you do inside that office?  I see you looking at your nearest stapler.  Baptiste Debombourg has lived out your fantasy.  Baptiste created these large scale figures with over 35,000 staples.  Now someone needs to follow in Baptiste’s footsteps and make a paper clip tapestry.

POLISHED / CLEAN / STICKY / DIRTY

Picture 1Recognize the above image?  Maybe the name Jesse Auersalo rings a bell?  Give up?  We featured Jesse in Issue Y, back when B/D was still a magazine… before we upgraded to our fancy limited edition book format.  Well Jesse is giving a talk at AIGA/NY on Wednesday March 3rd, 6:30-8pm.  This is Jesse’s first ever U.S. presentation!  Be sure to check it out if you’re in the area.  Also, you can go to our online shop and pick up a copy of Issue Y or grab the t-shirt Jesse designed.  Just for fun, you can see more of Jesse’s illustrations after the jump.

Grycja Erde

goat contraptionI am truly a sucker for anything of an absurd nature.  I also love the classic style of old propaganda posters.  So when I stumbled upon the collages of Miss Grycja Erde, twas a happy moment.  The nature of Grycja’s collages made me assume she was an older artist, since they have a mature approach to absurbity (in my opinion).  But I was surprised to find out she’s just 23!  Enjoy these tasty treats coming to you from Ukraine.

Interview – Dave Muller

If you are lucky, once in a while you find an artist that helps you remember why you started getting into art in the first place. I first saw Dave Muller’s work in 2004 at his show ‘I Like Your Music’ at Blum & Poe, and at the time was just a fresh-faced college kid, only beginning to think about getting involved in the fine arts. I walked into this room full of his drawings of massive record sleeves – vibrant, colorful, and full of life – it was one of the first times that I remember feeling truly enthusiastic about art, not simply because I thought it looked cool, but because it seemed to speak to something about life that I was really excited about. It was a turning point for me in the way I interacted with art, and I’ve never thought about things the same way. For me, Dave Muller’s work is all about the good things that make life worth living – good music, good friends, a little messy, a lot of color, and a lot of fun. Dave has been one of my favorite artists since that fateful day, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to talk to him about his work, his alternate life as a DJ, and his recent wall drawing at the new Cowboys Stadium.

Blake E. Marquis

Blake E. Marquis

Lots of cool stuff coming from Blake E. Marquis, a do-anything artist making his way out in NYC. Especially awesome typography, along with killer logo and typeface treatments. Throw in some eye-popping patterns, a super-sick silkscreen, a t-shirt, some posters for good measure, and we’re only beginning to touch the tip of the iceberg – this guy does a little bit of everything, and does it all really well.
