Flickr Pic Pool Selection: Miss Julia Jones

Miss Julia Jones

Fresh from our Flickr Pool I introduce you to Miss Julia Jones of Sydney, Australia. Julia photographs are of the snapshot genre, mostly focusing on her hip set of friends doing all kinds of things from pretending to be Elvis & Iggy Pop to well, looking hip! If I were to judge Julia’s life by her photos I’d think she was living in a non-stop party.. I’m officially jealous.

Make sure to Join the B/D Flickr Pool and you just may see your work posted next!

Studio Visit: Stas Orlovski

Stas

I recently stopped by the studio of LA painter  and B/D featured artists Stas Orlovski. Stas and I have been trading studio visits for quite a while and it’s always fun to see what he’s up  to. Not only is his work brilliant but he has a studio that anyone would be jealous of. It’s more tropical oasis than studio with amazing landscaping surrounding the converted garage studio. More  finished paintings and work in progress after the jump.

Art:21 Season 5!

Usually I don’t get too excited about shows on PBS but I have to say that Art:21 is by far the best thing i’ve ever watched on public television. If you’re not familiar with the show, Art: 21 is the only prime time show dedicated exclusively to contemporary artists. Each season follows 14 of the biggest names in the art world as they walk you through their conceptual process, studio practice and share rare behind the scenes footage of work in progress. Some of my favorite episodes from previous seasons include the legendary interview with Barry Mcgee and his wife Margaret Kilgallen and LA painter Lari Pittman. This is a must see show for anyone interested in the international contemporary art world.

I received a preview copy of Season 5 and I’m happy to announce that it does not disappoint with another set of interviews with art legends such as John Baldessari, Cao Fei, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons, and many more.

Season 5 premieres Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:00 p.m. (ET).
More Art:21 trailers after the jump.

Terry Richardson Speaks!

Most people either love or hate photographer Terry Richardson. I have to admit that I haven’t been the biggest fan of his work but hearing him speak in these two videos produced by Belvedere Vodka has made me rethink my position. I appreciate his sincerity and honesty about what he does and why he does it. Second video after the jump.
