I gotta admit that I was really excited to see Died Young Stayed Pretty, a new full length documentary focusing on the DIY rock poster (see gigposters.com) movement that has brewing in the US and beyond for the the last decade. The doc has hundreds of interviews with big names (many of whom you’ve never heard of) within the close knit rock poster scene, who discuss personal taste, poster philosophies, and what role money, drugs, and 70′s&80′s porn plays in rock posters. Many of the artists interviewed are amazingly talented (i.e. Tyler Stout & Brian Chippendale) and interesting, sharing with the viewer a small glimpse of their creative process.
542,000,000 years after the start of the Phanerozoic eon comes the announcement of self-titled sound clip “Masters of the Universe - part 2″ by collaborative creative group The Russian Frost farmers. The video is a tad on the long side (13 but it’s got the usual psychedelic lo-fi meets shaman noise band sounds that are so prelevenant these days. Worth a look.
Tal Drori is an illustrator, an interaction designer and a graphic designer. She is based in Milan, where she works as a consultant and teaches design. Make sure to check out the Love Story series of work on her site. It’s my favorite.
In June of 2008 Brendan “Solve” Scanlon was murdered in Chicago. Since Brendan was a graffiti/street artist his friends have created a campaign to giveaway Solve stickers to people all over the world as a symbol of Nonviolence and to honor Brendan’s life. Head over to Solve Stickers and get some free stickers, post them up in your town and spread the word!
We haven’t posted any abstract paintings in a while so I thought post some work by Rockford Illinois painter Jennifer Krantz. These paintings have everything in them from fire crackers to spray paint to sequins. Although some of the work reminds of Fiona Rae I think Jennifer gets a pass for creating such fun chaos.
If you’re in the LA area and looking for something to do swing by Ronin to see a 2 person show by Parskid and Julian Duron. Another day spent working on the next season of the B/D Apparel Line. We’ll be releasing our fall line in less than two weeks and will follow up in November with our Holiday line. As you can see we make a list and check it twice. Here are some highlights from today…
