such a simple yet brilliant experimental video. Bravo Andreas Soderberg!
Scion’s Installation 5 national art tour had its final public opening recently at Scion’s LA gallery in Culver City. Now all the art is available for purchase in an auction hosted at Artnet. All of the proceeds from the auction will benefit the non-profit, Creative Capital. Go and buy some art for a good cause!
Usually I don’t get too excited about shows on PBS but I have to say that Art:21 is by far the best thing i’ve ever watched on public television. If you’re not familiar with the show, Art: 21 is the only prime time show dedicated exclusively to contemporary artists. Each season follows 14 of the biggest names in the art world as they walk you through their conceptual process, studio practice and share rare behind the scenes footage of work in progress. Some of my favorite episodes from previous seasons include the legendary interview with Barry Mcgee and his wife Margaret Kilgallen and LA painter Lari Pittman. This is a must see show for anyone interested in the international contemporary art world.
I received a preview copy of Season 5 and I’m happy to announce that it does not disappoint with another set of interviews with art legends such as John Baldessari, Cao Fei, Cindy Sherman, Jeff Koons, and many more.
Season 5 premieres Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at 10:00 p.m. (ET).
More Art:21 trailers after the jump.
Most people either love or hate photographer Terry Richardson. I have to admit that I haven’t been the biggest fan of his work but hearing him speak in these two videos produced by Belvedere Vodka has made me rethink my position. I appreciate his sincerity and honesty about what he does and why he does it. Second video after the jump.
If you ever thought about breaking into the B/D office and stealing all the boxes of shirts going to stores think again. Ziggy the B/D mascot will hunt you down and slaughter you. Look at the photo after the jump to see his vicious tactics. I nearly lost a finger.
Caleb Weintraub recently had a show open at Peter Miller Gallery. The show is filled with hyper-colored paintings of kids in war uniforms riding boars, eating gators, and holding longest beard contests. Interesting to say the least! Make sure to see the show before it comes down on October 17th.
Also one of these paintings in the show will also be featured in B/D Book 2 so if you’re a fan of Caleb’s work make sure to Subscribe!
Jennifer Sanchez makes some nice paintings. The style might be a bit too reminiscent of Beatriz Milhazes work but still worth taking a look at.
