New work from Matthew Palladino opening at Baer Ridgway tomorrow!

Matt Palladino

If you’re in the SF area, be sure to check out Matt Palladino’s new work at Baer Ridgway, opening from 4-7pm this Saturday. Last month I had the pleasure of visiting his studio (one of the coolest & most conveniently located I’ve ever seen) and watching the artist painting meticulously and chugging down a mountain of Arizona ice teas. No joke, I have pictures to prove it.

Put on your Photobooth face forward

Mark Pernice

Artist Mark Pernice has turned our ultimate Photobooth fantasy into reality. Using Apple’s Photo Booth application as inspiration, the idea was to take the 2D image that it manipulated and create a tangible face in a real environment, then in turn bring it back into a 2D image. Using Photo Booth on the mask itself may create some sort of paradoxical shift where the artist ceases to exist.

Giant cake attacks Tokyo

Kozue Shimada with GwaGwa

Artist Kozoo (featured in our newest B/D Issue!) worked on this giant cake as a member of small creative unit GwaGwa. Highly preferred over Godzilla.

Insane Clown Posse’s Miracle…could be a miracle?

Hm, I almost have no words for the demon-clown-spawn’s new video for the song “Miracles” off their latest album. In the vid, the group ponders the simple joys and inexplicable curiosities of life’s treasure trove…lay down their horrorcore antics, and just float through cheesy galactic space, lyrics, and “fucking rainbows.” SNL made their tribute of course, after the jump.

Gao Brothers

Gao Brothers

Beijing based fraternal pair Gao Brothers have been collaborating on nstallation, performance, sculpture, photography works and writing now for three decades and shocking museums around the world with their guerrilla tactic art, one such featuring an apologetic Chairman Mao on his knees with a detachable head. Exhibitions by the Gao brothers, whose work the authorities find politically challenging, have been shut down in the past, and their studio has been raided. So they keep the head of Mao hidden in a separate location — reuniting it with its body only on special occasions to show friends and colleagues. Normally, the body of the statue remains headless, unidentifiable and nonthreatening.
