No wonder IKEA is loved by all

Forsman & Bodenfor‘s latest interactive multimedia site for IKEA (titled “Come Into The Closet“) is controlled by sound and music via mouse and keyboard. With 5 rooms to meddle with, feel free to tap the Spacebar, beatbox/belt out your own tune, or upload MP3s, and sit back as the characters on the screen move around to those sounds accordingly.

Side note: I read on IKEAFANS that the IKEA catalog is the 3rd most printed item in the world–right behind the Bible and Harry Potter. What?!

Jacob Ciocci of Paper Rad

I saw Jacob (one part of the trio? I think who makes up Paper Rad, and half of hip-hop-mashing/electro/idkwhat Extreme Animals) Tuesday night at Wildness and yesterday night at the Family bookstore, two stops on his “2 Blessed 2 B Stressed” tour.

I made a list of the things he “live blogged” about: how he was a fan of the Christian band Paramour’s positive messages, the Eddie Murphy and MJ duet “What’s Up With You“. I also grabbed one of the attitude bracelets that he’s so into right now. David of Extreme Animals also showed a synchronized guitar riff + head banging video piece during the Family show which was painful yet ecstatic everlasting repetition.

Brandon Jan Blommaert

Any information regarding the details of Brandon Jan Blommeart’s existence can not be found- his current info page is a self reminder to put up some kind of blurb and maybe an animated gif. I like these sculpture/collage things he did with recycled material, though I can’t tell if they are made in a 3D modeling program or out of physical materials (a comment on his in-progress post mentions the former). These abandoned beasts struggling in the wild remind me a little of characters from Miyazaki’s Nausicaa.

Edit: I just got an email back from Brandon (who lives in Canada) with some details breaking somewhat his shroud of mystery. These sculptures are indeed made out of garbage and created for a public arts commission. The final forms will be large vinyl prints wrapping the side of a building. Can’t wait to see photos of when they’re actually up!

Rob Matthews

Rob Matthews is an east coast designer (I’ve noticed a lot of good work coming from Minneapolis!) with a penchant for the ironic. His “Wikipedia” project takes articles from Wiki’s Wikipedia’s featured articles. Other projects include: T-shirts and posters that wrap around your head to make you become his friend ‘Trevor Burks’ (who he misses), and turning drawings into photographs which is kind of like the opposite of what people are used to when they’re first practicing art.

Edit: Friend & video artist Party Food (Joe) has sent me a map to show me where MPLS is, thank you. If you are like me, geographically challenged, please refer to this image.

Mary Ann Heagerty

I found Mary Ann Heagerty on our friend Graham’s blog (Future Shipwreck): she is a sensational sculptor, chic craftswoman, radical rock collector, and also his roommate. Here are some of her work, which includes dentures made out of lollipops and wood chips, hand castings, a giant three-dimensional mirror diamond, hair trapped in wax hexagon, and a series of carefully hollowed-out eggs incubating invitations to a MOCA opening. She also does these awesome video shorts that are uploaded on her Youtube channel about crafts with unlikely materials.

The Bruce High Quality Foundation

Spotted this giant New York-city-as-a-pizza (aptly titled “Pizzatopia”) by The Bruce High Quality Foundation as a piece for the VOLTA show somewhere on the internet and suddenly became very hungry. There’s more pictures of it after the jump just because I feel like I am eating it vicariously through blog text ingestion.
