Have you met Ben? Ben stopped by the Beautiful/Decay headquarters yesterday to drop off work for the upcoming Art Works Every Time exhibit. You may recognize Ben’s style from two of his recent Beautiful/Decay Apparel T-shirt designs: Greetings From New York & Greetings From Los Angeles. Ben’s been busting out some new paparazzi-inspired paintings for the exhibit. I had the pleasure of listening to him chat about his recent explorations and process, and the importance of a high-quality brush. You’ll be able to see all of Ben’s submissions next Saturday, June 12 at the Art Works Every Time opening reception at LA’s Synchronicity Gallery. Check out some more behind-the-scenes shots after the jump. Thanks Ben!

A Reason to Live Lowbrow Art Exhibition opens this Friday

AReasonToLiveA Reason to Live Lowbrow Art Exhibition opens this Friday, June 4th, at Coalition in little old San Luis Obispo, CA.  The DIY-style event, intended to inspire future collaboration & support for this small but thriving local art scene, will exhibit the most “interesting and provocative” artists from the area. The Lowbrow show is part of the city’s Art After Dark gallery walk – held the first friday of every month – and will certainly be a stroll off the beaten coastal-landscape painting path. Featured artists include Lisa Harrison, Steve Taggard, Gary Ellsworth (a.k.a. Sawdust), Joshua Jesse, Brittany App & more. Local art, live music, great company and some good old fashioned lowbrow fun!

Jagoda Boruch

I don’t know too much about Jagoda Boruch, except that this shooter is 19 years old and lives in Poland… and apparantly has an affinity for obstructing the faces of the people she photographs.  At least, that’s the case in this series of images; whereby Jagoda omits the face but reveals the frankness of life’s quirks instead.

Jeff Antebi is a photojournalist & essayist. His world portraits make me wonder: how would we perceive our place in this world, had we more familiar access to both the phenomenal beauty and the utter chaos that exists? Jeff’s Antebi captures both with finesse and power .

Jon Owen

Picture 5We’ve been posting alot of amazing illustrators from the UK, and Jon Owen is yet another within this category. You can difinitely detect a common stylistic thread from piece to piece, yet, Jon also has a strength for mixing things up and keeping his work fresh. I’m personally fond of his limited color splashes & muted palette, which only increases my curiosity to explore the details of these narratives.

Andrew Newson

The first descriptors that come to mind when viewing the photography of Andrew Newson are: still, quiet, repose. This UK based photographer holds still moments of peace to take in his rich and varied imagery; whether it be the hidden treasures of Sussex or the splashes of red from seaside to city.

James Oses

drapers

Mr. James Oses is a UK freelance illustrator. He works on location, sitting himself down where he pleases, and, using his steel-nib dip pen and ink, captures the streets of London. I love the active line quality of his illustrations – somehow he embeds a dynamic that makes me believe the image is a still from some animation reel that will, at any second, begin playing.
