Mr. James Oses is a UK freelance illustrator. He works on location, sitting himself down where he pleases, and, using his steel-nib dip pen and ink, captures the streets of London. I love the active line quality of his illustrations – somehow he embeds a dynamic that makes me believe the image is a still from some animation reel that will, at any second, begin playing.
Los Angeles artist Dave Tada regularly posts film photography to his blog, Analog Pics. This in itself is not unusual; except, in an age of digital photography where memory cards can be easily & quickly filled, I find Dave’s commitment to posting his strictly analog work a refreshing and disciplined approach.
Toronto native Jessica Thalmann is a photo-based artist with a curatorial presence. Her pieces bear witness to narratives of the past, overlaid on the reality of the present, capturing the intensity of these personal stories.
Small Victories, the latest project by Booooooom, opens Thursday May 20th at Hong Kong’s Above Second gallery. This collaborative experiment came together by requesting 4×6 photographic prints from numerous participants, and aims to be “a photographic celebration of the quietly beautiful, unintentionally funny, people and things all around us. It is these little moments that make life worth living.” If you can’t make it to Hong Kong, Booooooom.com will be posting the submissions.

Sergey Sbss is a Moscow based graphic artist and designer. Sergey applies his style through collaborations with numerous industries, and is intent on furthering such collaborations in order to experiment with varied and unexpected surfaces.
I like how UK based artist Anthony Zinonos plays with substitution- many of his pieces play with Minimalism and subject by playing off size, color and shape variations. I also like that something as simple as a triangle becomes the inspiration for a series. Anthony works alot with photo-collage but you can also find a few other media gems on his site, including a short video montage.
This past weekend I walked into Venice Beach’s Universal Art Gallery and found myself instantly captivated by the paintings of Robert Palacios, which are currently there on display. Robert is a Los Angeles native, and his work spans the mediums of paint, linocuts, paper mache and even avocado pits. His work is marked by vivid colors and everyday narratives, played out by some very unordinary, playful characters. Although not represented in the images here, Robert seems to take great care in selecting the frames for his paintings – thick, gold and gaudy – a choice I couldn’t have imagined would work so well to complement and complete his paintings.
Indonesia based artist Debbie Tea was a multi-media student, but she now chooses to express herself primarily through her camera. Her photographs, many of which she presents in series, are observations of a peculiar sort. She pulls together that which tends to reamain separate, and displays her subjects by playing with their absence.
