Jeff Hamada for Converse

full_converse_021Jeff Hamada (designer extraordinaire and creator of fave blog, Booooooom) recently teamed up with converse to make the above hand-winged design. They sort of look like if you put them on you’d suddenly be able to fly.The nice thing is, all profits from shoes purchased wholesale at the upcoming Live Stock event on February 19th in Vancouver will be donated to the Global Fund. (Flyer after the jump). Look rad, give back. Win-win.

Celebration! Shirts on Sale + B/D give you…FREE SHIRTS!

shirtsonsaleTo celebrate the launch of our brand new shiny Beautiful/Decay apparel website, we teamed up with one of our favorite shirt websites, Shirts on Sale! Eden herself has done a lovely job writing up the event at SoS here, but let me recap for ya.

Upload a photo of you wearing a B/D shirt to our brand new B/D community flickr pool, and if we like the photo, we upload it to our Community section and send you another B/D shirt, free of charge- just our way of saying thanks for being involved with beautifuldecayapparel.com and being a loyal fan! Deadline: February 20th. (If you miss the deadline, feel free to continue using our Flickr pool and we’ll still give you your five seconds of fame in our community gallery.)

Shirts on Sale also devised a way to hook their loyal readers up with shirts for free- just submit your best artork representing your love for SoS, and they’ll foot the bill for a free t-shirt as well!

Hope to see all of your shiny faces in our community section in the future.

Nan Na Hvass

Scandinavians are best at all things in my mind- but if I had to narrow it down to two genres, I’d have to pick design and music. Here is a wonderful example of the two realms combining: Nan Na Hvass’ lovely illustrations and animation for Efterklang’s single, Mirador. I love her candy palette.

Edvard Scott

Was perusing FAIRspot the other day and discovered Edvard’s Scott’s hypertastic digital extravaganzas. They look like mystical maps to strange new (video game) worlds. Fairspot also recently did an in depth interview with Edvard, you can read it here.

Yinka Shonibare Interview for the BBC

Yinka Shonibare is hands down one of my favorite contemporary artists. His stunning explorations into world history, the poetics and policies of identity, authenticity, globalization and imperialism raise interesting political questions without being patronizing. They are beautiful on a formal level, as well as conceptual.

The Tale of How

The Tale of How from Shy the Sun on Vimeo.

This song reminds me of the operatic magical feel of Nightmare Before Christmas- this video is not unlike an ancient Gravure coming to life. Really enchanting motion work. I love the talking rats, the fantasy- Secret of Nimh meets Hayao Miyazaki meets Japanese woodcut- just stunning.
