BAPTISTE DEBOMBOURG Shattered Glass Sculptures

Parisian artist Baptiste Debombourg large scale installations of shattered glass look as if an iceberg has crashed through the gallery walls and shattered into a million frozen pieces. Created out of over two tons of glass and taking over 420 hours to install Aerial (pictured above) transforms a banal material that we  come across everyday and transforms it into a monument of beauty.

Baptiste Debombourg’s unique approach to medium and spacial presentation includes spending 75 hours pushing staples into a wall to create a “wall painting”, and UV-glueing shards of glass around an urban bus stop, with intention to “provoke some emotion or empathy”. He turns the scenario of each of his installation/sculptures from violent destruction to that of aesthetic appreciation.
