CalArts seems to always churn out great designers. Chris Burnett is no exception. His portfolio is full of work that lives and dies by the grid but doesn’t take itself too seriously.

Bijan Berahimi is a Los Angeles local designer, illustrator, publisher, and more. He has recently updated his website with fresh works from posters, to postcards; web sites to exhibits. Los Angeles-based animator Miwa Matreyek completed the above film, entitled “Dreaming of Lucid Living,” as her thesis in the CalArts Experimental Animation program. I am completely blown away by it. I’m not entirely sure how it was made, but it seems to combine live performance with both pre-made animations as well as semi-autonomous, rule based animations that update based on what a camera is seeing. The result is unlike anything I’ve seen before, completely living up to the “experimental” aspect of the program.

Although we aren’t hiring here at Beautiful/Decay, we wanted to share Manny G‘s portfolio with you all. Navigating through media seamlessly, this recent CalArts graduate pretty much does it all. Whether it’s transforming a found book inside and out, illustrating Chewbacca with only one intense image-making technique, or revealing the cuter (?!) side of sex, Manny G delivers visual feasts.

I usually don’t post this many images, but I am having a difficult time deciding which illustrations I like the best. Triangular softcore and elvis awaits you, and an illustration style that should make you smile, at least a little.

Gali Erez is a graphic designer and illustrator from Israel. She is a CalArts graphic design graduate currently living and working in Los Angeles.
I’ve always enjoyed her playful use of proportion, fearless use of color and youthful connection to her content. She loves to mix markers, colored pencils, Micron pens, crayons, chalk, pencil and anything else she can get a hold of to create her work.

My friend at Zachary Kellogg at CalArts is having an opening tonight. It looks really great- whoever in the area should go check it out. I’m probably going to attempt the 357875445 mile treacherous drive as well.
Zachary Kellogg’s practice revolves around an ever changing fantasy typically using motifs involving fictitious relationships, masculine symbolgy, queer aesthetics, love/ obsession, and sadness/ hope.
