Collage artist Maksim Hem aptly titled this quiet series of works “Untitled Colours.” The name lends itself to the idea of objects overlooked, because they don’t scream and shout to get your attention. Hem’s restraint does not imply a lack of feeling but rather an attention to detail that is unnecessary to decorate. It’s like watching the Discovery Channel over Bravo–the life and times of baby cheetahs are just such a welcome change of pace.
Toronto-based creator Alex Fischer seems to prefer images laden with layers. Each image screams with a smashing of cultures and a tearing of borders. Fischer questions ownership in a similar manner to Richard Prince. Each image shows patience with a strident attention to detail, as each pressing of images goes further and further into a world all its own.
Originally from Russia, Sasha Tugolukova moved to London to pursue a career in art and illustration. Certainly not one to shy away from mixed media, Tugolukova produces collage images of what seem to be cut-outs from fashion photography and melds them together to create a piece of style and grace all her own.
I stopped by Melissa Oresky’s studio the other day. She is a Chicago painter who has been around for a minute and makes some really nice landscapy paintings with lots of collage and drawing thrown in for good measure. Check out what’s going on in the studio!
Check out these lovely works by up and coming artist, John Parot. This recent Chicago—-> LA transplant, has great use of color, pattern, composition and collage technique, plus he’s starting to delve into the realms of sculpture and animation! Looking good.
I recently stopped by the studio of LA painter and B/D featured artists Stas Orlovski. Stas and I have been trading studio visits for quite a while and it’s always fun to see what he’s up to. Not only is his work brilliant but he has a studio that anyone would be jealous of. It’s more tropical oasis than studio with amazing landscaping surrounding the converted garage studio. More finished paintings and work in progress after the jump.
