Did we ever have a grand ole time at the “Art Works Every Time” opening this past Saturday! We had record attendance, with party-goers spilling out into the back patio and onto the streets!
The Colt 45 ice cream was a smash hit- more than the carbonated beverage you might expect straight from the can, the tasty treat was was more like a delicious chocolate gelato with subtle hints of malt. (That’s my best “foodie” review of it, anyway.) I didn’t personally partake, but a few Colt 45 ice cream beer floats were rumored to be…”floating” around.
Our t-shirts, with featured artist Colin Strandberg’s winning design, “sold” like hotcakes. (And by sold, I mean given rampantly given away.) Charlyne Yi’s humorous & raw lo-fi performance called to mind the anti-folk avante-garde musical stylings of the Moldy Peaches and packed the house. Colt 45 was imbibed by all (with specially-made brown paper back beer cozies). Good times abounded. Check out some snaps after the jump, and view the full set on our Flickr!
Thank you to everyone who came out, the artists Colt 45 and Synchronicity Gallery for making this event a huge success!
Don’t miss Charlyne Yi’s performance with her band Flesh the Racist Crayon for “Art Works Every Time” tomorrow night! This Jane of all Trades is a comedienne/actress/producer/writer/painter extraordinaire whom you may remember from such box office hits as Knocked Up and Paper Heart. But even more importantly you’re seriously going to be kicking yourself with a snowshoe if you miss her FREE performance at “Art Works Every Time” and have to pay to see her at the UCB Theatre. Details after the cut.
B/D head of security, Ziggy, models the “Art Works Every Time” t-shirt, which will be given away to the first 100 people to arrive at our opening tomorrow night, June 12 from 8-11!
The shirt features Colin Strandberg’s award-winning design (which you have seen on our exhibition flyer) and super-shiny metallic gold and silver ink! (Shiny!) I’m only exaggerating slightly when I say that this shirt is badder then fixed gears and cigarettes COMBINED. So come early! Details and more of Ziggy vogue-ing it after the cut.
The final interview in our 10-part “Art Works Every Time” series is with artist Ben Tegel. We’ve actually collaborated with Ben extensively, as he has also designed for Beautiful/Decay Apparel, contributing the shirt graphics for the “Manson”, “Greetings from LA.”, and “Greetings from N.Y.C.” shirts. Can’t believe the opening is already tomorrow- hope to see all of you out there, it’s gonna be a great night!
Eric Shaw creates fractal-filled cosmic psychedelic drawings and paintings that takes both abstraction and figuration to strange, surreal new levels. We’ve actually had the pleasure of doing an in-depth interview with him on the B/D site last year, so it was great to catch up with him! Just a few days away ’til “Art Works Every Time,” and we can’t wait!
Emilio Santoyo creates a whimsical world where “tall boy” beer cozies playfully detail delicate, children’s illustrations style giraffes and back-yard bbqs are filled with cut-off short wearing, mustache-wielding heshers. We are so excited to see the works he created specially for the “Art Works Every Time” exhibition, opening just a few days away this Saturday, June 12! Check out his full interview after the jump.
Harrison Roberts’ work combines vertiginous, mandalic quality linework, texture and patterns with a pop color sensibility. Harrison is near and dear to our hearts as he actually was a fearless B/D intern earlier this year! We’re really excited he’ll be part of our upcoming “Art Works Every Time” exhibition! Just 4 days away now…
Colin Strandberg in his studio and his piece "Nature Pattern"
Today’s Art Works Every Time interview is with Colin Strandberg, whose work is a playful exploration of color and shape, straddling both abstraction and figurative work. Colin contributed our grand prize winning graphic, which can be seen on our show flyer. We’ll also be printing T-shirts with the design for the exhibition- first 100 visitors get one for free! Just 5 days away now til the show!
