Today’s Art Works Every Time interview is with Brian Willmont. His vibrant colors and energetic compositions command attention like a shot of tequila in the fluorescent glow of a Vegas dive bar. Read on to see more of Brian’s South West inspired “Clint Eastwood fever dream” works. Also, with just one week left to go before our exhibition, stay tuned for a new artist interview every day, starting Monday!
Today’s featured “Art Works Every Time” artist is Jesse Wiedel. Wiedel describes his unique blend of metaphysical trailer-park angst as “trashy yet mystical;” Wiedel finds the complexity in actions taken out of context and placed within a cheap motel, the dialectical meaning in the iconography of the van, the spiritual gesture of a face-shoving match, the hostility in a complacent family vacation portrait. His works are uncannily American, displaying a David Lynch-like curiosity in society’s two-faced duplicity, its simultaneous suburban superficiality and seedy underbelly. At once dark and humorous, Wiedel’s works startle and shock through their sheer familiarity.
Today we go behind the scenes with Emory Allen, one of the ten featured artists in our upcoming “Art Works Every Time” exhibition. Emory will be showing his latest series, which uncovers and explores the mythology of his Filipino heritage. The result is a collection of strange and beautiful images, vibrating with energetic linework. Read on to discover more about Emory’s work!

The last month or so we’ve been extremely busy, putting the finishing touches on our “Art Works Every Time” exhibition. We sifted through hundreds of submissions to pick 10 of the most exciting emerging artists around today. Since we teamed up with Colt 45 to present this one of a kind exhibition, we got to brainstorm all kinds of creative giveaways we thought you’d enjoy: free Colt 45, free T-shirts to the first 100 visitors (with Colin Strandberg’s award-winning graphic, above) and even never-before-made (or tasted) Colt 45 ice cream by local fave Scoops! Trust us, it’s delicious.
To top off the night, we’ve invited comedienne Charlyne Yi, who will perform with her band Flesh. Yi’s debut album was produced by none other than Tenacious D, and her live performance has to be seen to be believed!
Whew! Now we just have to hang the show! Can’t wait to see all of you at the opening!
