Don Porcella Sculpture and Tunes

Don Porcella has a show of his signature, brightly hued sculptures and encaustic paintings up for one more week at Spattered Columns in NYC. The show is entitled Everything and Nothing at All. In a recent conversation Don and I had, he brought up his love of imagery that could be read in multiple ways. He talked about painting secrets, and casting shadows in multiple directions, dislocating literal time and space into a psychological time and space. He is an artist worth paying attention too. His show has a closing party on October 26^th, from 6 to 8pm. Porcella will also be playing music during the closing party. Porcella has performed his music in San Francisco, Nashville, and recently at Robert Miller Gallery in NYC. Should be a very good time.

Don Porcella Gets Waxy

Don Porcella is best known for his awesome figurative sculptures made using pipe cleaners. He also makes very tactile and colorful paintings. I love how the flatness of a messy drip painting can transform into the immensity of a sky which is back-dropping a space opera on an alien planet. Check out Don’s blog for updates and shows, he’s been in a bunch of cool shows over the last couple of months.

When I first saw the work of Don Porcella, I found it to be quite humorous, and with a second glance I realized how much detail he puts into each one of his sculptures. Each one is made of pipe cleaners and I find all the different things he chooses to make with them quite creative.
