Dale Dreiling

download-2

Dale Dreiling takes inspiration from the everyday occurrences in Los Angeles, highlighting icons that are often overlooked, from street vendors and other characters, to liquor stores, swap meets, and catering trucks. Though his paintings bring color and focus to those images that go unnoticed, his subjects are often eerily faceless. Perhaps this is just for the sake of anonymity, or maybe Dreiling is attesting to the idea that we are not as different from others as we think.

Harrison Roberts Visits B/D

DSCN1995Say hello to Harrison Roberts. Harrison stopped by our offices to drop off his work for the upcoming Art Works Every Time exhibit. He was a bit flushed and out of breath – having lugged his pieces, many of them quite large, up several flights of stairs on a muggy Los Angeles afternoon – and then we made him pose for our camera! I’ve been admiring his collection of 2 and 3-dimensional works. They speak so boldly from afar but I can’t help inspecting them from very close in order to take in all the unexpected details; his concoctions speak equally well – albeit with altered voices – from both perspectives. You can see Harrison’s complete collection next Saturday, June 12th, at the Art Works Every Time opening reception at L.A.’s Synchronicity Gallery. Thanks Harrison!

Andrew Holder

all-is-well

By creating a style akin to The Very Hungry Caterpillar for grown-ups, Andrew Holder has snagged some big clients, including Roxy and Urban Outfitters. His intricate patterns, clever compositions, and often bold color choices make Holder’s pieces buzz with visual interest.

Dave Tada

Los Angeles artist Dave Tada regularly posts film photography to his blog, Analog Pics. This in itself is not unusual; except, in an age of digital photography where memory cards can be easily & quickly filled, I find Dave’s commitment to posting his strictly analog work a refreshing and disciplined approach.

Robert Palacios

dale_la_manoThis past weekend I walked into Venice Beach’s Universal Art Gallery and found myself instantly captivated by the paintings of Robert Palacios, which are currently there on display. Robert is a Los Angeles native, and his work spans the mediums of paint, linocuts, paper mache and even avocado pits. His work is marked by vivid colors and everyday narratives, played out by some very unordinary, playful characters. Although not represented in the images here, Robert seems to take great care in selecting the frames for his paintings – thick, gold and gaudy – a choice I couldn’t  have imagined would work so well to complement and complete his paintings.

Bjorky

revenge of quilt man tokyo_0011 Bjorky is an illustrator and animator living in Los Angeles. His work, according to him, is social commentary depicted through the fantasy realm. Whatever the reason behind his art, there is no denying how cool and interesting it really is.
