Shugo Tokumaru “Katachi” Paper Stop-Motion Music Video

Shugo Tokumaru “Katachi” from Kijek / Adamski on Vimeo.

Need to brighten your day? Get ready. This is a stop motion music video from animation duo Katarzyna Kijek and Przemysław Adamski for Japanese singer-songwriter Shugo Tokumaru.  Inspired by an everlasting chain of memories, It features a continuous parade of about 2000 silhouettes extracted from PVC plates set to Tokumaru’s quirky track Katachi (which means “shape” in Japanese). Really. I dare you to be sad after watching this.

Minus The Bear’s Listing Video Animation By Jesse LeDoux

Seattle based band, Minus The Bear, continues to turn out lively and inventive music.  Their recent music video for the song “Listing” on their latest album “Infinity Overload” is no exception.  LA studio Six Point Harness and past renown B/D apparel artist Jesse LeDoux teamed up to create a transforming scenic walk about.  When I saw this for the first time I knew that Jesse had to of worked on it.  The shape shifter walks through a long stream of LeDoux’s signature quaint landscapes.  I think this video has fun with the popular illustration style, ordinary objects adorning legs, but it takes that idea one step further adding the collage photography element.  It reminds me of an exquisite corpse drawing brought to life.

Matt Mahurin’s Widely Varied Creative Output

Illustrator/Photographer/Filmmaker Matt Mahurin has published illustrations in Time Magazine, Rolling Stone, The New York Time, and more. He’s compiled photo essays on the homeless, people infected with HIV/AIDS, the Texas prison system, and more. He’s directed music videos for artists like Tom Waits, R.E.M., Metallica, David Byrne, and MORE. That word- “more”, comes to mind a lot when going through Mahurin’s work. He just seems to be doing everything at once. And he does it so well. I’m always astounded when I come across a multidisciplinary artist making work in each of his or her chosen platforms that’s just as good, if not better than that of artists who choose to focus in only one area of practice. I mean it’s just not fair. Check out more of Mahurin’s widely varied projects after the jump.

Video Watch: You’ve Got A Radical Friend

Yeasayer “O.N.E” Dir: Radical Friend from Radical Friend on Vimeo.

Radical Friend is a directorial duo comprised of Kirby McClure and Julia Grigorian, which makes colorful music videos, commercials, and films that literally rock your socks off. By combining their obvious love for the wildest aesthetics of the late 70’s and early 80’s with the modern technology of interactivity, Radical Friend have been the only ones to really push the boundaries of how to even conceive of, let alone execute promotional standards like the music video. Their uniqueness is seriously unmatched and while a majority of people may not understand what they’re doing now, they will soon be immersed in the kind of things that Radical Friend probably dreamt of years ago. To get a small taste of Radical Friend’s world, I suggest you watch the pieces in this article and then play around with THIS interactive Black Moth Super Rainbow extravaganza.
