Victoria Topping has many muses, but one in particular is music. Her funky experiments with collage instills movement to the inanimate; “developing an alternative music for the eyes.” Another recent inspiration for this UK based illustrator has been the textile patterns of wallpaper; Victoria has found a playful style in marrying the two. I definitely agree with the title of one of Victoria’s  galleries: There Ought To Be More Dancing.

I love the work of Laura Splan. She uses a combined knowledge of biological sciences and fine art to re-invent patterns and forms created by the human body. Because her work is closely linked to the biology of the human condition, it evokes an inherent discomfort. For me, this is most prevalent in “Purse #1″, a delicate evening bag constructed with remnant facial peels from her breast.

I’ve always enjoyed her playful use of proportion, fearless use of color and youthful connection to her content. She loves to mix markers, colored pencils, Micron pens, crayons, chalk, pencil and anything else she can get a hold of to create her work.
