Roman Klonek’s Woodblock Prints

Roman Klonek has a soft spot for old fashioned cartoons, especially east european styled prints that sit somewhere between folk art, pop, and propaganda graphics. In the 90s he studied Graphic Arts in Duesseldorf and discovered a passion for woodblock printing. For the last 10 years he has been creating posters with a wide range of whimsical creatures, mostly half animal/half human, preferential in awkward situations.

Katrina Andry

These days you don’t see enough printmaking in galleries. You may see a silkscreen here or there but when was the last time you saw some wood block prints that are 3×4 feet? I’m glad to know that Katrina Andry is not only making interesting work using this old school art making tradition but is also raising the bar by going big.

Anna Topuriya’s Etchings

Sometimes you don’t need to create  a lot of visual noise to make something great. Anna Topuriya‘s etchings and prints are a perfect example of how delicately drawn work can be effective.

New Mark Warren Jacques Print

summer_forweb

Mark Warren Jacques just released this doozy of a geometric-nostalgic silkscreen. Mark’s directions for use? “Order; get excited for mail; tell the mail man thanks; open & hang on wall (near plants and sunshine if possible); stare at often until you become tired and ready for sleep; fall asleep.” Available for a mere $35 (along with some other nice prints) here.

Studio Visit: Stas Orlovski

Stas

I recently stopped by the studio of LA painter  and B/D featured artists Stas Orlovski. Stas and I have been trading studio visits for quite a while and it’s always fun to see what he’s up  to. Not only is his work brilliant but he has a studio that anyone would be jealous of. It’s more tropical oasis than studio with amazing landscaping surrounding the converted garage studio. More  finished paintings and work in progress after the jump.
