Sharjah Biennial 2009 – Eclipse (Watch Tower) By Amir H. Fallah from amir fallah on Vimeo.

A few weeks ago I made a series of posts from my trip to Sharjah & Dubai. I didn’t post much about why I was there and what I was doing but the above video should shed some light. It documents the construction of a large scale 2 story sculpture titled “Eclipse (Watch Tower) built in the atrium of the Sharjah Art Museum for the Sharjah Biennial.

While in Dubai & Sharjah I had the chance to see some amazing arabic and persian calligraphy. If you’ve ever been into typography or graffiti you will surely walk away from this region with a renewed appreciation for the amazing calligraphy you find around every corner.

One of my favorite pastimes while in Dubai & Sharjah is to photograph all the photos and paintings of the various Sheikhs in every single building that you enter. My favorite of these signs is the massive ligh tbox depicting Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan on the famous Sheik Zayed Road.

I’ve been to Dubai and Sharjah several times and have always loved these sun visors on the backs of cars. You’ll see them all over the place depicting the royal family behind a flapping U.A.E flag. I’m sure that we’ll be seeing images of Obama on the backs of car windows in no time.

I’m off today for a 10 day trip to the mid-east to take part in the Sharjah Biennial. I’ll be documenting my travels in hope of giving everyone a sneak peak into the Biennial as well as Art Dubai which takes place over the same weekend.

With a 6 hour layover at London Heathrow, I decided to do a bit of digging for images or videos about the Biennial but so far the above video is the only thing that i’ve uncovered. It doesn’t say much of anything about the Biennial itself so it will have to do until I actually land in Dubai.
